Our Story
Greenhollow Brangus
The Greenhollow bee — small, busy, and built for this country
Nestled in the volcanic Border Ranges, Greenhollow Brangus Stud is located adjoining a Gondwanaland National Park called Mount Chinghee. The aboriginals referred to this as Bung Bung Mountain, translating to “rain mountain”. Historically Bung Bung Mountain has always been the creator of rain for The Scenic Rim.
An hour and a half south of Brisbane, Greenhollow enjoys an abundant diversity of pastures including Gatton Panic, Creeping Bluegrass, Rhodes Grass, Kikuyu, and numerous Stylo’s climbing over any structures they can find.
Our cattle are raised and finished on pastures and milk, from birth to sale, and are rotated regularly to allow long rest periods to ensure our pastures are constantly improving the way nature intended.
The Greenhollow Brangus herd formed from a number of proven Brangus studs in Queensland including Kajarabie Brangus, Yabba-Do Brangus, Dynamite Brangus, Bullakeana Brangus, Nindooinbah Brangus and Sunshine Brangus.
Each year we artificially inseminate all our cows selecting the best DNA we can source from around the world to ensure every new generation improves on the previous generation. Every calf is DNA tested and we measure for tenderness, calving ease, fat scores, fast growth rates and early maturing.
Above everything, our cattle must be functional, structurally correct, fertile and prove breeding longevity with many of our cows still calving at 16 years of age. If our cattle don’t have the feet and legs to handle the steep rocky hills, subtropical humid summers complete with ticks and buffalo fly, then they won’t survive.
Greenhollow Brangus continue to adapt, to embrace and thrive through our sub tropical conditions with minimal human intervention. All our cows calve naturally with no assistance, we do not supplement their food with the exception of molasses to help train them to walk to the yards, and we expect they will join and produce a calf every year.
